About MOVE Artists

About MOVE Artists

MOVE Artists is a nonpartisan civic engagement initiative powered by the Drake Institute of Women’s Policy, a think-and-do tank working to lift all people out of poverty by focusing on three pillars of economic security and mobility: jobs, care, and healthcare as essential infrastructure. The Institute advances women and girls in society as a pathway to broader prosperity for all people.

MOVE is how that mission comes to life through art. By mobilizing both professional creators and campus communities, we channel the power of performance, visual expression, and storytelling to raise awareness about fair access to life-sustaining resources and to inspire voter turnout in every U.S. election.

Two Membership Tracks

College & University Track

MOVE partners with colleges and universities to integrate civic leadership into student life. Through training, creative challenges, and national recognition, MOVE Artists helps campuses:

* Boost student engagement and belonging

* Strengthen recruitment and retention outcomes

* Enhance institutional visibility through national campaigns

* Provide students with leadership experience that prepares them for lifelong civic participation

Professional Artist Track

MOVE’s founding cohort of professional artists represent a wide range of genres across the performing and visual arts. Professional members contribute original works that highlight issues such as fair access to education, healthcare, housing, clean air and drinkable water, transforming creativity into civic action that motivates voter participation nationwide.

Nonpartisan & Inclusive

MOVE Artists is firmly nonpartisan. We do not endorse political parties or candidates. Instead, we focus on the universal principle that democracy is strongest when more people are informed, inspired, and participating. Our work is rooted in inclusivity, ensuring diverse voices, communities, and artistic traditions are represented.

Why We Move

Art has always played a pivotal role in movements for justice and change. MOVE Artists is the next chapter in that tradition, giving artists and students alike the training, recognition, and platforms they need to transform creativity into civic power.
